Storage Tanks
Storage tanks widely used in pharmaceutical industry for storage of liquid chemicals. Based on chemicals physical properties, it is made up of different materials like Stainless steel, Mild steel, Glass lining, PP, HDPE, PVDF etc.
Storage tanks are designed as per requirement and tank design pressure, nozzle sizes, nozzle orientation, tank thickness, height and diameter etc are important for usabality of tank and life of tank.
Vent sizing should be accurate and excessive by 21 % to avoid pressurization of vessel. Breather valves should be designed accurately to avoid over pressurization or implosions.
Charging or discharging pump flow rate should be sized accordinging to tanks venting or breathing capacity to avoid pressurization or implosion.
As per guidelines,
-
Below 3.8 m3 (1000 gal) capacity tanks, use vertical tanks on legs.
-
3.8–38m3 (1000–10,000 gal.), use horizontal tanks on concrete supports.
-
Beyond 38m3 (10,000 gal.) use vertical tanks on concrete foundations.
-
Liquids subject to breathing losses may be stored in tanks with floating or expansion roofs for conservation.
-
Freeboard is 15% below 1.9m3 (500 gal.) and 10% above 1.9m3 (500 gal.) capacity.
-
Capacities of storage tanks are at least 1.5 times the size of connecting transportation equipment.
